Solar photovoltaic cells convert sunlight directly into electricity. These cells are arranged into photovoltaic modules, which in turn are arranged into solar photovoltaic arrays and mounted on a roof. In most cases, an inverter is used to convert the direct current into alternating current, allowing for grid connected power generation. Power from the solar array can be used directly to power any kind of electrical equipment or stored in a battery for further use.
