TESTING CHECKLIST

Building Solutions addresses the following in a standard Home Performance Test:

Building Envelope Leakage Rates
Using a blower door, a negative pressure differential is created in the house to determine how much outside air infiltrates the house. High infiltration rates affect the amount of energy needed to heat and cool a home as well as the indoor air quality.
Duct Leakage Rates
In a similar manner to a blower door, a duct blaster can measure leakage in a duct system.
Building Load Calculations
Every building component, including each wall, window, door, ceiling and floor, is measured and recorded to determine the exact amount of heat that is lost or gained. The results can help properly size a heating and cooling system which is essential for comfort and efficiency. In addition, load calculations can help determine how much energy would be saved by making improvements.
Energy Bills
Both electricity and gas bills for the last year are collected to determine household energy trends
Insulation Levels
The insulation in the attic, walls, and crawlspace are examined and measured to determine resistance values and installation quality.
Energy Audit & Analysis
Each light and each appliance in the home is examined and all the pertinent energy information is recorded.
Air Quality Analysis
An indoor air quality tool can be left in the home for a week to determine pollutant levels in the house.
Heating and Cooling Efficiency
Existing heating and cooling systems, including furnaces and air conditioners, are thoughoughly examined to measure their operational efficiency.
Solar Sizing and Feasability
The climate conditions, building orientation, and utility bills are all collected to determine the feasibility of renewable solar options.
Thermal Boundary Integrity
The building envelope is examined to determine any areas where heat might be lost or gained.
Weather and Site Conditions
Weather station information and conditions about the building site are collected to determine exactly how much energy is needed to heat or cool the home.
Water Heating Efficiency
The existing water heating system is examined to determine its efficiency.
