BioMod Modular Bioretention System

Modular Precast Design Speeds Up Installation of Pollutant Reduction Systems

The BioMod® Modular Bioretention System from Oldcastle Infrastructure, A CRH Company, is a vegetated bioretention system that removes total suspended solids (TSS), dissolved metals, nutrients, gross solids, trash, debris, and petroleum hydrocarbons from stormwater runoff. Modular precast concrete sections are filled with layers of plantings, mulch, bioretention media, and drain rock.

The BioMod® system is engineered for use with conventional, non-proprietary, low-flow rate media as specified by the local regulatory agency. Plantings appropriate for the local area are typically specified by the designer. The system received functional equivalency approval from the Washington State Department of Ecology as a stormwater bioretention planter or planter box.

System Configuration

BioMod® can be produced locally and installed quickly, providing an economical bioretention solution. Oldcastle Infrastructure’s engineers can help you size an effective system and source media for your best project to ensure you are receiving the right configuration to meet your site-specific drainage and layout requirements. In addition to the main filter cell, additional pre-filter modules are available to remove and retain gross pollutants that inhibit performance of soil-based filter systems. These can be configured to meet your project-specific flow and layout requirements. Additional modules include trash, curb inlet pre-filter, grated pre-filter, and Swalegard® overflow filter and pre-filter. The BioMod® unit requires routine maintenance, including inspection of the system and health of the plants, removal of trash and debris, and replacement of mulch as needed.
